We all know that List Building refers to email marketing, or marketing in general. You build a list of contacts so you can market to them. With that said we are going to start with,

What Is NOT List Building?

It is NOT List Building if…

• people filling out the form on a page are not added to your Emailing List.
• every single person filling out the form does not go on your list.
• you are not using an Autoresponder.
• you’re asked or forced to give up your leads.

When you join a program and they require you to bust your ass to bring in leads to give to your sponsor, You are NOT list building for you. What you are doing is building the owners mailing list. You can not take your leads, or list with you, if that program closes or you decide to leave. Any program that requires you to give up leads or referrals to your sponsor is a program not worth joining in my opinion. If You are going to do the work of generating leads for Your business, You should want to keep all of them. Not pass them up to anyone.

List Building Done Proper

Sign up for an Autoresponder service, create your list, create your capture form, put it on a page and get leads on your list. Once the lead verifies their email send them to the service or product you are recommending. When you are list building make sure you have control over your leads. You want to look for the ability to export your leads in a CSV file so you can move it to another autoresponder if needed. You need to be able to segment your list so you can email them proper material.

Lets say you have a list you want to build with the topic of Weight loss. There are multiple types of weight loss. You want to email your list the proper weight loss advice or product for the type of weight loss they are interested in. So you need to get a little more specific with your emails. You want to segment your list into the different types of weight loss so you can get the best result from your list.

The purpose of List Building is to deliver content your readers are interested in.
